Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has unveiled a mesmerizing new addition to its urban landscape with SpY’s Ovoid, a 35-meter-high illuminated installation suspended beneath the Wadi Hanifah Bridge. Opened on 28 November as part of Noor Riyadh 2024, the city’s annual light art festival, the sculpture captivated visitors with its vibrant red glow and transformative presence.
The glowing ovoid, reflected in the still waters below, creates a striking interplay between physical form and its mirrored counterpart, blurring the line between reality and illusion. This dynamic visual dialogue amplifies the work’s impact, challenging traditional perceptions of scale and materiality.
Known for integrating art, architecture, and natural landscapes, the Spanish artist SpY has crafted a monumental creation that invites viewers to engage deeply with their surroundings. Ovoid offers an experience that is both physically imposing and emotionally intimate, redefining the relationship between the environment, the artwork, and the viewer.
The installation’s vibrant light saturates the atmosphere, transforming the bridge and its surroundings into an immersive sensory space. Visitors approaching the piece are met with a dramatic shift in scale and perspective, as the ovoid evolves from an ethereal glow to a commanding form.
As part of Noor Riyadh’s mission to enliven the city with luminous art, Ovoid stands as a bold testament to the power of light and sculpture to redefine urban spaces and inspire profound connections.
