The iconic photographer Bruce Weber is celebrated in a sweeping retrospective, Bruce Weber: My Education, now on view at the Stone Bell House in Prague until January 19th, 2025. Spanning six decades of work, the exhibition highlights Weber’s distinctive style through hundreds of photographs, encompassing fashion imagery, intimate portraits, reportage, and landscapes.
Curated by Helena Musilová and Nathaniel Kilcer, the show eschews chronological order, instead presenting a thematic interplay of textures and tones. Weber’s celebrity portraits, such as those of Nelson Mandela and Louise Bourgeois, stand alongside candid photographs of athletes, actors, and everyday moments, creating a visual dialogue that reveals his signature blend of intimacy and narrative depth.
Among the notable projects featured is Weber’s 2000 shoot with Heath Ledger in Prague, a poignant series capturing the late actor’s explorations of the Czech capital. Also included are Weber’s evocative images from Detroit and Miami’s Little Hanoi community, offering glimpses into urban life and cultural diversity.
The exhibition extends beyond photography, showcasing Weber’s films, music videos, and collaborations with brands like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Display cases filled with his books and magazine covers, including works for Vogue and GQ, testify to his impact on both fine art and commercial photography.
Notably, Weber’s connection to animals is also highlighted, with his celebrated The Golden Retriever Photographic Society series offering a tender exploration of human-animal relationships.
